How to Connect Your Broker to Tradetron: Step-by-Step Setup

To connect your broker to Tradetron, open Broker & Exchanges from your profile menu, click Add Broker, choose your broker and enter the API details it asks for. Many brokers now also need the address your orders come from (your Tradetron virtual server) whitelisted on their side, and a login token generated each trading day. Then deploy a strategy to check the first order.

Before you start

  • A funded broker account with the segments you plan to trade (equity, F&O, commodity) activated at the broker.
  • Access to your broker's API or developer portal. Each broker names it differently: Kite Connect for Zerodha, SmartAPI for Angel One, DhanHQ for Dhan.
  • Your Tradetron user ID. Some brokers' setups ask for it in the redirect URL.
  • An authenticator app if your broker uses TOTP for login.

How the connection works

Five steps: add the broker on Tradetron, enable a Tradetron virtual server and whitelist its address if needed, create API keys on the broker's portal, generate the login token, then test with Live Offline and Live Auto at 1xThe shape every broker connection follows

Tradetron never holds your funds. It uses your broker's API to place orders in your account when your strategy says so. The broker controls what that API can do, which is why each broker's setup asks for slightly different things.

Step-by-step: connect your broker

  1. Open Broker & Exchanges. Log in to Tradetron, click your name at the top right, and choose Broker & Exchanges.
  2. Click Add Broker and choose your broker from the list.
  3. Enable a virtual server if your broker needs an address. Click the edit icon next to your broker. If Enable virtual server appears, pick a plan and pay from your wallet or online; Tradetron emails you the server's address. Whitelist that exact address in your broker's API settings. Some brokers only let you change it once a week, so paste it carefully.
  4. Create API keys at your broker. In your broker's developer portal, create an app. Use the redirect and postback URLs from Tradetron's setup document for that broker, and copy the API key and secret.
  5. Enter the details on Tradetron. Paste the API key, secret, client ID and anything else the form asks for. Leave the token fields blank. Check for stray spaces: a trailing space from copy-paste is a common silent failure.
  6. Generate the token. Click the token or auth link on the broker card, log in at your broker, and complete OTP or TOTP. You should see a success message and the broker marked as connected.
  7. Set up the daily login. If your broker issues tokens that expire daily, generate a new one before the market opens each day, or use the auto-login option where your broker supports it.

Broker-specific notes

Broker Where the keys come from Watch out for
Zerodha Kite Connect app The redirect URL needs your Tradetron user ID, not your Zerodha ID
Angel One SmartAPI, using New Login Use your Client ID and MPIN in the Tradetron form; TOTP from an authenticator app
Dhan DhanHQ Trading APIs in Dhan's terminal The access token is valid for one day; generate and paste a fresh one daily
Upstox Upstox developer portal Changing a registered IP invalidates the token; IPs can be changed once a week

Why the virtual server step exists

Under SEBI's framework for retail algo trading, brokers need to know where API orders come from, so many now accept API orders only from a whitelisted IP address. Your strategies run on Tradetron's servers, so your home or office address will never match. The address you register is your Tradetron virtual server's: the virtual server page has the rule, the prices and the steps. Read SEBI's algo-ID mandate for what else it means for you.

Test the connection before trading real money

  1. Deploy a strategy Live Offline. The strategy runs and records every trade, but nothing is sent to the exchange. This checks your strategy, not the broker link.
  2. Deploy a simple strategy Live Auto at 1x on the connected broker, during market hours.
  3. Check the first order in the deployment's broker log and in your broker's order book.
  4. Check the exit goes through too. Then run your real strategy.

Common connection errors and fixes

Error or symptom Likely cause Fix
Token or session error at market open Today's token wasn't generated Generate the token before the open; set up auto-login if available
"Unregistered IP" or "IP not allowed" Virtual server address missing or mistyped at the broker, or the server has expired Re-check the address at the broker against Tradetron's email, extend the server if needed, regenerate the token, redeploy
Order rejected for margin Not enough funds, or segment not enabled Add funds or activate F&O at your broker
Login works but token fails Wrong ID in the redirect URL, or a space in a key Re-check the redirect URL and re-paste keys without spaces
Connected, but no orders in Live Auto Deployment is Live Offline, or the strategy's conditions haven't triggered Check the deployment mode and the strategy's logs

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to connect my broker to Tradetron?

Tradetron connects through your broker's official API, and your funds stay in your broker account. Keep your API keys private, enter them only in the broker form, and use your broker's own controls such as IP whitelisting and TOTP.

Do I need to connect my broker every day?

The connection is set up once, but many brokers issue login tokens that expire daily. For those, you generate a new token each trading day before the market opens, or use auto-login where your broker supports it.

Why does my broker need a static IP?

Many brokers now accept API orders only from whitelisted IP addresses, in line with SEBI's retail algo framework. Tradetron doesn't sell IPs: where your broker needs an address, you enable a Tradetron virtual server for that broker and whitelist its address in your broker's API settings.

Can I connect more than one broker to Tradetron?

Yes. You can add several brokers and deploy the same strategy on each, with a different size on each deployment if you want.

Which brokers can I connect to Tradetron?

Tradetron supports Zerodha, Angel One, Dhan, Upstox and many more Indian brokers. The full list appears when you click Add Broker on the Broker & Exchanges page.

Can I use Tradetron before connecting a broker?

You can build and backtest strategies before connecting anything. To place real orders with Live Auto, you need a connected broker.
