StockMock simulator vs Tradetron: what each is good for
StockMock is one of the most familiar names in Indian options testing. If you searched for the StockMock simulator, you are probably deciding whether to pay for it, or whether a free replay can do the same job. This page compares the two honestly, using what each side states publicly. We built the Tradetron simulator, so read it with that in mind: where StockMock is stronger, we say so.
The short version is that both let you pick a past day and trade options as the clock moves. They differ in price, in what sits around the simulator, and in what you can do once the practice is over.
Choose StockMock if you want a long-established product with a multi-year backtester and a live-price Strategy Builder in the same subscription, you need BANKEX, and you are happy to pay a monthly plan.
Choose Tradetron if you want to replay real days at 1-minute steps at no charge, with prices that are never modelled, and then have Cookie turn what you did by hand into an algo that you backtest and deploy with your broker, all in one login.

Replay depth: how finely can you step through a day?
The Tradetron simulator moves in 1-minute steps. You can jump by a minute up to an hour, let it auto-play, or go straight to the close. At every minute you see the option chain as it stood: Delta, IV, open interest and change in OI beside each strike, plus PCR and max pain. You can build multi-leg positions such as straddles, strangles, spreads and condors, exit part of a position, and read a trade log of every entry and exit. Sign in and a position can be carried over several days to expiry, where it settles at the index close.
StockMock describes its simulator as a way to see potential gains, losses and the influence of Greeks on simulated option trades, with a customisable dashboard. That is a fair description of the category, but on its public pages we could not find the size of the simulator's replay step or the date its data starts. Its terms do say the backtesting service runs on 1-minute OHLC data, and that is a statement about backtests, not the simulator. If the step size matters to you, ask StockMock or check inside the product before you pay.
One more difference is how a missing price is handled. If a strike did not trade in a given minute, Tradetron shows its last traded price from earlier that day, greyed out, with the minute it traded. We never fill the gap with a model. We have not found StockMock's policy stated, so we make no claim about it.

Data coverage: which indices and how far back?
Tradetron's data starts on 1 January 2020 for NIFTY and Bank Nifty, 3 February 2021 for FINNIFTY, 14 September 2023 for Midcap Nifty and 7 August 2023 for SENSEX. The newest replayable day is about 35 days old: 35-day lag; SEBI requires 30. SENSEX is a BSE index and runs on approximations, because our data has no BSE settlement or margin file and its chain is thinner than NIFTY’s. We would rather say that here than have you find out mid-trade.
StockMock’s Analytics Plan lists six indices: NIFTY, BANKNIFTY, SENSEX, FINNIFTY, MIDCPNIFTY and BANKEX. That is one more than we offer, and BANKEX is a real gap on our side if you trade it. StockMock’s F&O stocks are listed for the Strategy Builder only, so neither tool replays stock options in its simulator on the evidence of their public pages.
On history length, StockMock’s terms say a Backtesting Plan covers all the data on the platform and give “last 3 years, 4 years or more” as an example, without a start date. That is about backtesting, so we do not set it against our simulator dates. Whichever tool you choose, find out the start date for the index you trade before you buy anything, because a replay is only as useful as the days it covers.
Analysis tools: what can you read while you replay?
In the Tradetron simulator the payoff graph is part of the replay. You see the payoff at expiry and at any target time, with plus and minus 1 and 2 sigma bands, and what-if controls for spot and IV. Position Greeks update as the clock moves. The trade log keeps your reasoning honest: every entry and exit is listed with its time and price.
StockMock’s strength is the set of tools around the simulator. The same plan includes a Strategy Builder, Charts and an Option Chain, and the Strategy Builder lets you track a simulated portfolio against live prices with real-time P&L. A pure historical replay has nothing like that. If you want to test an idea on a past day in the morning and watch the same idea forward in live prices in the afternoon, StockMock puts both in one subscription.
The StockMock backtester also states that it factors in slippage, brokerage and taxes, with leg-wise stop loss and drawdown reports. We make no such claim for our simulator, and you should not read a replay as a cost-adjusted result.
What happens after practice?
This is where the two products part ways. A replay teaches you how a position behaves. It does not tell you whether a rule would have worked across hundreds of days, and it does not trade for you.
On Tradetron the path continues in the same account. You tell Cookie, our AI, what you did by hand: the entry time, the strikes as distance from ATM, where you exited and why. Cookie writes that as an algo with an entry rule and a stop-loss or time exit. You backtest it on years of data, and when you are ready you deploy it with your broker. Algo trading carries risk, and a backtest describes the past, not the future. Cookie is not part of the public simulator itself; it is the next step once you have a setup worth testing.
StockMock approaches it from the other side. It began as an options backtester, and its multi-year backtest is a mature product. It sells that separately: the Backtesting Plans do not include the Simulator, and the Analytics Plan does not include the multi-year backtest in a single click. Its backtest results are not saved, so every rerun uses a credit. We did not find a deploy-with-your-broker step on StockMock’s pages. For the route from replay to backtest to live algo, see from a manual replay to an algo.
Price, as checked on 15 Oct 2026
StockMock sells the Simulator inside its Analytics Plan: Rs 349 for 30 days, Rs 1,599 for 180 days (shown as Rs 267 a month) or Rs 2,599 for 360 days (shown as Rs 217 a month), all plus 18% GST. Its pages show no free Simulator tier. The free credits it offers cover backtests on the latest one month of data, not the Simulator. If you also want its multi-year backtester, that is a separate Backtesting Plan at Rs 449 for 7 days, Rs 1,299 for 28 days or Rs 2,999 for 84 days, plus GST.
The Tradetron simulator carries no charge. You can try the preset days with no account, and a free Tradetron account opens every trading day in the data. We do not count that as a reason to pick us on its own, since other tools have free options too. It matters mainly when you want to practise for a few weeks before deciding what, if anything, to pay for. StockMock also says it offers support by email only. Prices change, so confirm them on each provider’s own site.
Where StockMock is stronger
- Track record. StockMock has been an options-testing name for years, and its backtester is mature.
- Live-price forward tool. The Strategy Builder tracks a simulated portfolio against live prices, which a historical replay cannot do.
- BANKEX. It is in StockMock’s index list and not in ours.
- Cost modelling in backtests. StockMock states slippage, brokerage and taxes are factored in.
- Newer days. Our data runs on a 35-day lag. StockMock does not state its lag publicly, so it may be shorter, and we have not checked.
We also have no save, share or import inside the public simulator today. If you need to keep and reload simulations, check what each tool offers first.
How to decide in ten minutes
Open a real day and place a trade before you spend anything. Our preset on the day of the 2024 election results is a good test of a fast-moving session: replay NIFTY on 4 June 2024 from 09:20. Then compare it against whichever paid tool you are considering, on the same day. For the other tools, read Opstra, AlgoTest and Sensibull, or go back to the option simulator.
Questions traders ask
How much does the StockMock simulator cost?
On 15 Oct 2026 StockMock listed its Analytics Plan, which includes the Simulator, at Rs 349 for 30 days, Rs 1,599 for 180 days and Rs 2,599 for 360 days, each plus 18% GST. Check stockmock.in for current prices.
Is there a free StockMock simulator?
We found no free Simulator tier on its public pages. Its free credits are for backtests on the latest month of data. The Tradetron option simulator has no charge: preset days work without an account and a free account opens every trading day in the data.
Do the StockMock Backtesting Plans include the simulator?
No. StockMock says its Backtesting Plans do not include the Simulator, Builder or Charts, which need an Analytics Plan.
Which indices does each tool cover?
StockMock lists NIFTY, BANKNIFTY, SENSEX, FINNIFTY, MIDCPNIFTY and BANKEX. Tradetron covers NIFTY, Bank Nifty, FINNIFTY, Midcap Nifty and SENSEX, each from its own start date: see the data note on the hub.
How far back does the Tradetron simulator go?
NIFTY and Bank Nifty from 1 January 2020, FINNIFTY from 3 February 2021, SENSEX from 7 August 2023 and Midcap Nifty from 14 September 2023, in 1-minute steps. 35-day lag; SEBI requires 30.
Can I turn a simulator trade into an algo?
On Tradetron, yes, as a next step. You describe your setup to Cookie, which builds the algo; you backtest it and deploy it with your broker. The public simulator does not hand your trades to Cookie automatically.
