AlgoTest simulator vs Tradetron option simulator
AlgoTest and Tradetron both let you go from testing an idea to running it with a broker, and traders often compare them as platforms. This page is narrower. It compares only the two historical option simulators: the tools where you pick a past day, trade the option chain and move the clock. For the wider platform picture, including backtesting, deployment and broker support, read our Tradetron vs AlgoTest comparison.
We built the Tradetron simulator, so weigh what we say accordingly. Everything about AlgoTest below comes from its own public pages, checked on 15 Oct 2026, and we say plainly where it does more than we do.
Choose AlgoTest if you want a simulator with alerts, import from its Strategy Builder, replay of your own past trades, BANKEX and stock options, and a platform that already runs backtests, forward tests and live algos with many brokers.
Choose Tradetron if you want to start replaying real days with no account, at 1-minute steps and with prices that are never modelled, and then continue to a Cookie-built algo, a backtest and deployment with your broker in the same login.
| Tradetron | AlgoTest | |
|---|---|---|

| Option chain | Delta, IV, OI and OI change, plus PCR and max pain | Delta and IV per strike, with Payoff, Greeks and Activity tabs |
| Payoff | At expiry and at any target time, with 1 and 2 sigma bands and what-if controls for spot and IV | Payoff graph with breakeven and risk-reward figures |
| Indices | NIFTY, Bank Nifty, FINNIFTY, Midcap Nifty, SENSEX | NIFTY, BANKNIFTY, FINNIFTY, MIDCPNIFTY, SENSEX, BANKEX |

| Import and your own trades | None in the public simulator | Imports from its Strategy Builder and can replay trades taken through it |
| Alerts | Not in our feature list | On leg stop loss, leg target, overall target and stop loss, the underlying and position delta |
| Logged-out access | Preset days work with no account | The replay controls and option chain load without a login, with a Get Plan button |
| After the simulator | Cookie builds the algo, you backtest it, then deploy with your broker | Links to its backtester, Forward Test and live algo execution on the same platform |

Replay depth: stepping through a day
The two replays are close on the basics. Both step by a minute, both auto-play, and both give you buttons to jump further. AlgoTest’s steps go up to a day, and its docs also describe faster playback, for example five minutes per second. Tradetron’s jumps run from a minute to an hour, plus a jump to the close; to move across days you sign in and carry the position forward.
Where Tradetron is different is in what it refuses to do. If a strike did not trade in a minute, you see its last traded price from earlier that day, greyed out, with the time it traded. We never fill a gap with a model. We have not found AlgoTest’s handling of a missing price stated, so we make no claim about it.
Positions in our replay can be held overnight to expiry once you sign in, and at expiry they settle at the index close. AlgoTest has a +1 day step, but we could not find a statement that positions carry across days, so we leave that comparison open. Test it with the strategy you trade.

Data coverage: which indices and how far back?
Tradetron’s data starts on 1 January 2020 for NIFTY and Bank Nifty, 3 February 2021 for FINNIFTY, 14 September 2023 for Midcap Nifty and 7 August 2023 for SENSEX, in 1-minute steps. SENSEX runs on approximations, because our data has no BSE settlement or margin file and its option chain is thinner than NIFTY’s. The newest replayable day is about 35 days old: 35-day lag; SEBI requires 30.
AlgoTest publishes simulator pages for the same indices and BANKEX. It also says its simulator replays stock options and lets you mix futures with options. That is wider coverage than ours. It does not state a start date for the simulator. Its documentation walks through an example from 20 May 2020, so history reaches back at least that far, and we leave the comparison there.
On recency, when we opened AlgoTest’s simulator on the evening of 15 Oct 2026 it showed that same day’s session. That is an observation, not a published policy, but it suggests newer days than our 35-day lag allows. If replaying last week matters to you, AlgoTest may suit you better.
Analysis tools: what you can read and set
AlgoTest’s simulator is the richer tool for managing a trade as it plays out. It offers alerts on leg stop loss, leg target, overall stop loss and target, the underlying and position delta. It has one-click prebuilt strategies grouped as bullish, bearish and neutral, and it can import a strategy from its Strategy Builder. It can also replay trades you took through the Builder, which turns the simulator into a tool for reviewing your own decisions. Tradetron has no equivalent today.
Tradetron focuses on reading the chain and the payoff. You see Delta, IV, open interest and change in OI beside each strike, plus PCR and max pain. The payoff is shown at expiry and at a target time, with 1 and 2 sigma bands and what-if controls for spot and IV. Position Greeks move with the clock, you can exit part of a position, and a trade log lists each entry and exit. Our public simulator has no save, share or import, so a session is something you replay, not something you store.
What happens after practice?
This is the part both platforms care about most, and they take different routes. AlgoTest links its simulator to its backtester, Forward Test (its live-price virtual trading) and live algo execution, so everything sits on one platform. It reports 40M+ backtests and 30,000+ traders and says it is backed by Y Combinator. Those are strengths of scale that we do not match.
Tradetron’s route starts with Cookie, our AI. You describe what you did in the replay: the entry time, the strikes as distance from ATM, and the exit. Cookie writes it as an algo with an entry rule and a stop-loss or time exit. You backtest it on years of data and deploy it with your broker when you are ready. Algo trading carries risk, and a backtest describes the past, not the future. The public simulator does not pass your trades to Cookie by itself; you tell Cookie your setup. A worked example is in from a manual replay to an algo.
Price: why we do not quote one for AlgoTest
The Tradetron option simulator has no charge. Preset days work with no account, and a free Tradetron account opens every trading day in the data. We do not count that alone as an edge, since several simulators have free options.
For AlgoTest, we leave the simulator’s price out. On 15 Oct 2026 its own pages did not agree with each other on what the NSE and BSE simulator costs, and a number we could not confirm would only mislead you. AlgoTest does publish plans and prepaid credits, so look at its pricing page, and if possible open the simulator logged out to see what it asks for, before you decide.
Where AlgoTest is stronger
- Trade management. Alerts on legs, overall P&L, the underlying and delta.
- Import and review. Import from the Strategy Builder and replay of your own past trades.
- Coverage. BANKEX, stock options and futures mixed with options.
- One platform end to end. Backtest, Forward Test and live algo execution with many brokers.
- Scale and documentation. More users, a track record backed by Y Combinator, and a detailed docs site.
- Possibly newer days, judging by what we saw on 15 Oct 2026.
Who each simulator suits
AlgoTest’s simulator suits a trader who already works on its platform, wants alerts and prebuilt strategies, and likes to import a setup from the Strategy Builder or review trades they took earlier. If you trade BANKEX or stock options, it is the one of the two that says it replays them.
Tradetron’s simulator suits someone who wants to open a real day in a minute, with no sign-up, and learn how a position behaves: how a short straddle decays, what a gap does to a strangle, how IV changes the payoff when an event passes. It also suits a trader whose plan is to turn a practised setup into an algo on the same platform where it will be backtested and deployed. Many traders will try both, and that is a sensible way to choose.
How to choose
Run the same day on both. A volatile session shows the differences quickly: replay NIFTY on 7 April 2025 from 09:15, the day India VIX jumped 66.1% and NIFTY opened 4.82% lower. Place a short strangle, move the clock, and notice what each tool lets you do. Then read the StockMock, Opstra and Sensibull comparisons, or go back to the option simulator hub.
Questions traders ask
Is the AlgoTest simulator free?
We cannot say. On 15 Oct 2026 AlgoTest's own pages did not agree on what the NSE and BSE simulator costs, so check its pricing page. The Tradetron option simulator has no charge.
Which simulator has more indices?
AlgoTest lists NIFTY, BANKNIFTY, FINNIFTY, MIDCPNIFTY, SENSEX and BANKEX, and says it replays stock options too. Tradetron covers NIFTY, Bank Nifty, FINNIFTY, Midcap Nifty and SENSEX, each from its own start date.
How far back does the Tradetron simulator go?
NIFTY and Bank Nifty from 1 January 2020, FINNIFTY from 3 February 2021, SENSEX from 7 August 2023 and Midcap Nifty from 14 September 2023. 35-day lag; SEBI requires 30.
Can I set alerts in the Tradetron simulator?
Alerts are not in the simulator's feature list today. AlgoTest's simulator offers alerts on stop loss, target, the underlying and delta.
Does this page compare AlgoTest and Tradetron as platforms?
No, only the simulators. For backtesting, deployment and brokers, read our Tradetron vs AlgoTest comparison.
Can I move from a Tradetron simulator trade to an algo?
Yes, as a next step. Tell Cookie your setup, backtest the algo it builds, and deploy it with your broker. Algo trading carries risk.
