Backtesting runs your strategy on historical data to see how it would have behaved. It is a simulation, so results will differ from live trading (slippage, fills, data differences).
The engine today
Since 25 August 2026 every backtest (website or AI chat) runs on FastBT. The older engine is retired.
- Instruments: NSE cash stocks, Futures and Index F&O (Nifty/Banknifty); Sensex/Bankex index options (from Jul 2023); MCX futures and options; select US stocks and index options; BTC/ETH daily options on Delta India (from Jan 2024).
- Not supported: individual stock options, CDS/currency, other crypto. Finnifty and Midcap Nifty are live-only.
- History: from 1 Jan 2020. Finest candle: 1 minute.
- Keywords not supported: Gamma, Theta, Vega, Rho, Bid/Ask price, Bid-Ask Difference, VWMA, VWAP. PCR, Total OI, Delta and IV work. Unsupported keywords are refused up front with a refund.
- Ignored: corporate actions, rollovers, advanced price execution, SLM orders, tranching, overnight protection. MIS/NRML/CNC are not distinguished.
- Cost: ₹20 per run, or 1 backtest-pack credit if you have one. Failed runs are refunded.
Run time depends on the strategy’s complexity, candle size and date range.
Before you run one, see Checklist before you run a backtest. A good backtest is not proof a strategy will work; test it in Live Offline too.
